A Non-Tenure-Track Associate Scientist position is available in the Department of Neurology and within the Center for Translational Research in Neurodegenerative Disease (CTRND) in the College of Medicine to lead the fluid biomarker effort for the 1Florida Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center (ADRC) and related analytics within the CTRND, and support bioinformatic analyses related to ‘omics efforts of affiliated faculty.
Successful candidates are expected to assist in grant writing and project development, working in a highly collaborative fashion to advance the parallel missions of the ADRC and CTRND.
Principal Duties and responsibilities:
Redcap database development and management, working with Data Core and UF Redcap to develop a database that includes sample storage locations, biosample tracking, and biomarker results.
Perform/manage internal and external biomarker testing (Quanterix Accelerator lab, Quest).
DNA extractions & APOE genotyping.
Perform other studies for Fixel, PreCEDE, and Imaging by maintaining record of freezer inventory (includes updating records when samples are removed for testing/shipping.
Partner with UF faculty in bioinformatic analyses of ‘omics data including but not limited to proteomics, bulk, and single-cell RNAseq, and other large data sets.
Train and mentor undergraduate and graduate students.
Investigate, create, and develop new methods and technologies for research advancement.
Contribute to scientific literature, reports, journals, and presentations.
Assist in securing project-focused funding (grant writing).

Minimum Requirements:
Requirements include a PhD and/or MD in Neurology and/or related field and at least 2-6 years post-doctoral experience or the equivalent.
Skills/Abilities/Competencies Required:
• Strong academic record with demonstrated scientific productivity.
• Strong research and analytical skills, proficient reasoning skills in experimental design and interpretation.
• In-depth knowledge of the field of neurodegenerative diseases.
• Excellent time management and organizational skills.
• Proficient written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
• 5+ years of experience
• Experience working with proteomics systems and bioinformatic analyses is a plus.
Additionally, the successful candidate will possess an understanding and compliance with laboratory regulations such as ACS, EH&S, IACUC, UF State and Federal guidelines.
Support of accurate records and legal documentation required by institutional policies such as biological, chemical, and radiation safety policies.
The successful candidate will be expected to accomplish the above duties independently, with only minimal consultation from the PI/supervisor.
