The CAD Technician creates and modifies detailed drawings using CAD hardware and software from sketches, layouts, or notes provided by engineers.
This position contributes to drawing preparation for a wide range of infrastructure projects and works with engineers regarding model accuracy, design, drafting standards, and documentation.
The CAD Technician may be involved in system management including file maintenance, backup, and storage.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Technical Responsibility
· Arrange and prepare accurate and logically organized electronic drawings from notes, templates and sketches provided from project team members or supervisor.
· Use computer-aided drafting or design software for design, drafting, modeling, or other engineering tasks.
· Investigate field conditions and read and comprehend as-built drawings, construction specifications, and technical information to develop CAD drawings.
· Reproduce drawing and document packages to fulfill contractual obligations.
· Maintain technical knowledge with regard to computers, software, file archiving, and printers/plotters
· Learn and adapt to new programs, and adjust to changes in product and client demands.
· Develop tools to help use CAD more efficiently.
· Coordinate with clients, subconsultants, project engineers, utility departments, manufacturers, and others to understand, develop, and deliver drawings.
· Use judgment and decision-making skills to determine if the drawings will comply with the scope of work, known regulations, and client expectations.
· Effectively communicate with others via telephone, in written form, by e-mail, or in person.
Quality Program Responsibility
· Assume responsibility for the quality of work submitted.
Review designs and documents before submitting them to the next review level.
· Responsible for proper quality assurance and quality control on projects in accordance with the Jones Edmunds Quality Program to ensure projects meet Company, industry, and client standards and expectations.
· Adhere to project deadlines and keep the Supervising Engineer or Project Manager informed of any difficulties encountered on assignments.
· Submit work for quality control review on time and in a complete format.
Management Responsibility
· Responsible for managing self on projects to ensure that a quality product is produced in accordance with the schedule.
Marketing Responsibility
· Understand the services offered and the client base served by the Company.
· Present a professional and positive image of Jones Edmunds.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Education: HS diploma or equivalent
Registration: None
Certification: None
Experience: 4+ years of progressive experience in a position using Microstation and/or AutoCAD preferred
Other: Proficient with Microstation and/or AutoCAD
Valid Driver’s License with an acceptable MVR
